What to wear and keeping it simple...
Oshkosh+photos+photographer+milwaukee+boudoir.jpg

Trying to determine what to wear on a morning basis can put me in a tailspin, but stepping it up for your boudoir photoshoot...well, stress much?

The wonderful thing about this type of shoot is anything...well most anything, can work.  This look above: towel, bandeau bra and gorgeous makeup...boom!  Simple and gorgeous.

We decided to try something different by digging into the hall closet and came across this jacket with black belt.

Once again, pretty simple but completely stylish.  A little really goes a long way.

Stepping out of your comfort...

I can be a bit impatient when it comes to getting things done.  Back in the day at a corporate office this served my employers well.  Here at home doing home projects, it doesn't always work well with a hubby who has other plans.

A year or so ago while waiting for the hubster to cut the piece of wood I needed and to drill the hole I needed to finish a project my impatience kicked in.  Dusting off some of that anxiety I had about using "big" tools, I took a deep breath and realized I needed to get over being scared of them if I wanted to move forward with anything project big or small.

Small steps turned into bigger steps.  I bought myself my own cordless drill, a table saw (love that thing) and went to work.  I opened up my world a bit and started just getting things done on my time and creating without limits....Finally.

Think about what's holding you back.  Is it limiting you in any way from accomplishing bigger things?

Why no one should ever turn you down...

True beauty at any age...any size.  When your client mentions she's been turned down by another photographer due to size...what?  No, no, no.  This all out gorgeous girl is beautiful...stunning actually.  Please don't let size from 0 on up ever stop you from feeling amazing just as you are.

Marcia Clark...

Browsing through Netflix series I could 1/2 watch while multitasking (for some reason, the background noise works), I happened upon the People vs. OJ Simpson.

I figured this would be a decent series to multitask to since I was glued to the t.v. when it was happening live and what more could I really learn?

Well the series has captured my attention more than I thought, more so for what is portrayed of Marcia Clark.  A mom of two kids, going through a divorce, while being the lead counsel on a high and demanding case.

To top it off, if that wasn't enough, the public thought it wise to comment on her hair and dress.

Holy shit...

While I've never gone through the divorce or been an attorney, I have worked at a demanding job that expected long hours, while having young children at home and a husband that traveled. Always trying to "keep up with the guys" at work who easily put in the hours.   I was criticized (behind my back which somehow made it worse) for having to leave work early due to sick kids and husband being gone.

Anyway back to Marcia, to have the workload on her shoulders, plus trying to be there for her kids and dealing with scrutiny...my hands down to you.  I never knew at the time what you yourself had to deal with.  I think the workforce is becoming a bit more family friendly, but I'm not positive being my own boss now.  Please tell me it's gotten better...?

She has love and she has sass!

I've mentioned before how I gain so much from each client I meet.  Taking someone's image allows for some incredible bonding time.  So many things either in common or learned or both. Once again, I'm not disappointed with the amazing strength this woman has in personality and physically.  Thank you so much Miss. B for allowing me to capture you and having a blast together.

Your questions answered...

If you've been playing around in your head about doing a boudoir shoot but not quite there, I am answering some of the typical questions I get asked.

Who does a boudoir shoot?

I am always amazed and proud of every woman that comes through my door.  Each story is different.  A boudoir shoot is really for any woman that wants to remind themselves that they are beautiful and empowered.  Here is a list of some of my past clients:

  • Soon to be bride
  • College graduate
  • Single Moms
  • Cancer survivors
  • Mom with young children
  • Mom with teenagers
  • Women with tattoos
  • Business owners
  • Newly married
  • Women recently divorced
  • Women aging 19-60

Why did they do a shoot?

Every client has their own personal reasons whether they do this solely for themselves or for a significant other.  The one thing they all walk out with is knowing they are pretty darn amazing and they have created something that they can look at everyday to remember.

I am concerned about my family or co-worker finding out.

I do in person sales so your images are not uploaded and sitting in a gallery that someone may see.  Any images I post online to social media or my website is approved by the clients.  You choose if you want to share all or none of your images or just a few that you select.

Isn't this kinda...taboo?

There is a variety of imagery from history that showcases people smiling, laughing, kissing, showing off their muscles, etc.  The differences is, this is more special to you.  You get to showcase more facets of who you are, your vulnerability, your strength, your beauty, your sensuality, your humor. What you wear it to flatter you, but it's more than that... it's to show you're more than a mother, daughter, wife, sister, colleague, daily grinder. You are an empowerment within and we get to capture that.

You're never too old...

I recently was reading a paragraph in the book authored by Elizabeth Gilbert of "Eat, Pray, Love" titled "Big Magic".

She (Elizabeth) met this woman named Winifred who was 90 years old.  At 80 years old, Winifred decided to study Mesopotamia and for the next 10 years became academically an expert in the field.  At 80 mind you she decided this.  She has said that it "totally changed my life", looking back at those 10 years of study.  Holy crap girls...what an inspiration.  Never...ever stop learning, achieving and making your life what you want.

Miss I...

Beauty I find is really underneath the layers of our shell.  This girl is not only outwardly beautiful, but she is humble and caring.  Her mom has told me stories of how she's been a wonderful peer and is helpful to those in need.

It wasn't hard at all to pick up on all her beautiful characteristics during her shoot...

Libbi & Colin

I've know Libbi's sister, Hannah, for many years and when she contacted me about her sister's wedding, I was thrilled.

When I first met Libbi and Colin for drinks in Appleton to go over wedding plans, I knew I was going to have a blast working with them.  They are fun loving, easy going and such a joyful couple.  As you scroll through the images, you will immediately feel Libbi's infectious smile and the adoration Colin has for her.

The setting:  Colin's family home which was beautifully decorated.

Kim and Tremain

Wedding of Kim and Tremain....

A few years ago I went through a course in Colorado that helped me navigate my mission and three words that described me.  The coach...scrapping away all my inhibitions and the cement blocks that surrounded my persona, finally settled on three words...romantic, intimate and independent.  The word intimate resonated as I gravitate towards finding something to always relate to with others.  I enjoy hearing their stories.  This has led me on the path I've taken with my photography, more intimate portraiture.  I have become a better person because of my clients and that small part of their lives I share with them.

Neenah wedding

Kimberly and Tremain had a gorgeous intimate wedding early this September.  That blue cabinet above, she refurbished and painted and it became a part of their wedding.

Post Script

If you read my post below here...

I can't leave out my buddy George.  Here are some items displayed and actual clothes worn in various movies.

A Legacy

My daughter has been a bit obsessed with White Christmas lately...hello 80 degrees out and sunny?

So while traveling through the Carolina's this past week, she begged us to stop off and visit Rosemary Clooney's home in Kentucky.  Who knew right?

So I went to the website to look at hours for visiting and hello....George has some items on display too...ya know...thee George Clooney.  It's a deal, I am all in.

Rosemary or like I refer to her as Rosie,  had this quaint home overlooking the Ohio River in a little town about an hour outside of Cincinnati OH...on the Kentucky side.  We actually arrived after hours but the gentleman who helps take care of the home took us on a private tour...how cool.

We saw a lot of her history through private and public photos displayed, the actual dresses worn in various movies and White Christmas and oh, that little ol' display of George's too.

We went upstairs to visit her bedroom as she left it (except for the photos and displays by the museum).  She had this image on her mantle of her...(my cell pic below).  It is an image she had once given to her grandmother who displayed it in her own home.

Oshkosh_photographers

Did I find it obnoxious that she would have this beautiful image of herself in her room as she aged?  NO.

I adored it...

I also adored George's display.

I really was a bit mesmerized seeing her life in pictures and how she isn't forgotten.  Now, I really want to have an image like that above in my room.  Life is too fleeting not to.  A gentle reminder that portraits that last generations are celebrated and what an amazing thing for every woman to have of herself.
